Untold Stories from My Wedding Day!

December 17, 2019

Today, is our 3 year wedding anniversary and I thought, what better time to dedicate a blog post to my wedding than today! Our wedding day was by far the happiest day of my life and while I did share some pictures and video online, there was so much that happened behind the scenes that honestly no video or photo was able to convey.

With that being said, in this post I will be sharing some fun facts that only a select few know of, so get comfy because something tells me this will be a long one…

We didn’t hire a wedding coordinator.

Quite frankly we couldn’t afford one! I was fresh out of grad school working freelance and knew it would be tough to fit one in on our very strict budget. Hubby and I decided we would take it on ourselves. My job at the time, literally had “coordinator” in the title and I had seen enough “Four Weddings” and “Bridezillas” to know what not to do, so we weren’t too worried about not having a coordinator from day one.

I never saw the venue until the day of the wedding.

Our wedding was in Jamaica and I wasn’t able to travel due to work but I remember seeing a picture of our venue on Facebook and falling instantly in love! We figured it had to be a Great House of some sort but didn’t know which one. Also, we had no idea where on the island the venue was or if it was even available for weddings. But it didn’t take us long to figure out it was the Bellefield Great House and without seeing the venue in person, we went ahead locked in our dates!

It rained the morning before our wedding.

Enough to make us worry because our ceremony and reception were both outdoors and we did not have any plan b’s or c’s in case of rain. Luckily, it was only a morning shower and by the time our wedding day came around there was not a rain cloud in sight! The sun was out and we really couldn’t have asked for a better day weather wise.

I did not have a maid of honor.

I did the complete opposite and went with a man of honor instead! Being the quirky, unconventional soul that I am, it just felt right to have my brother at the aisle with me on one of the biggest days of my life.

My wedding dress ripped before I made it down the aisle.

The whole hem at the front ripped right open while taking b-roll footage for the wedding video. I was devastated, but at the same time I decided not to sweat it because freaking out wasn’t going to do anything.  Shout out to my cousin for coming to the rescue with some scissors to fix it! By the time she was done, the rip was barely noticeable.

The impromptu open mic was not so bad after all.

In fact, this was one of the most memorable and most talked about bits from our wedding! There was a little bit of everything. From cringe worthy banter, to reliving moments and rituals from our college days. It was all good fun.

Our dance party was lit!

My peeps really showed up and showed out for the reception. It was great to see everyone let loose and have a good time on the dance floor. I couldn’t have asked for a better end to the night.

I forgot my garter .

I hope that’s not bad luck but in all the excitement of the day I forgot to put on my garter. I didn’t remember until it was time to do the garter removal. Don’t ask how I manage to get it on during the reception without anyone noticing but I sure did, lol!

My mother-in-law almost missed the wedding ceremony.

Her flight to Jamaica got rescheduled to the day of our wedding. We had to push back the ceremony start time to give her enough time to get to the venue and sure enough she made it with time to spare!

And now here’s a collection of my favorite pics from December 17th 2016. Leave me a comment below if you enjoyed this post and shout out to all the incredible vendors who made this day possible three years ago!
